NOTE:

ANY TIME THE STEERING COLUMN IS SEPARATED FROM THE STEERING SYSTEM, IT MUST REMAIN IN THE LOCKED
POSITION UNTIL THE CLOCKSPRING IS SEPARATED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN.

THE SPECIFIED FASTENERS, SCREWS, AND BOLTS MUST NEVER BE REPLACED WITH ANY SUBSTITUTES. ANY TIME A NEW
FASTENER IS NEEDED, YOU MUST REPLACE WITH THE CORRECT ONES PROVIDED IN THE SERVICE PACKAGE OR ONES LISTED
IN THE PARTS BOOKS.

Steering Wheel

WARNING:

BEFORE BEGINNING ANY AIRBAG SYSTEM INSTALLATION OR REMOVAL PROCEDURES, REMOVE AND ISOLATE THE
NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY CABLE (GROUND) FROM THE VEHICLE BATTERY.

Removal

1.

Make sure road wheels are straight and steering column is locked in place.

2.

Remove ground (-) cable from battery and isolate.

3.

Remove airbag module from steering wheel, as previously outlined.

4.

Remove clockspring set screw from its resting place on the steering wheel and place it in the clockspring to insure clockspring

positioning. The screw is on a plastic tether. Do not remove tether.

NOTE:

ANY TIME THE STEERING WHEEL IS REMOVED, YOU MUST REMOVE

THE CLOCKSPRING SET SCREW FROM THE WHEEL AND PLACE IT BACK IN THE CLOCKSPRING TO INSURE POSITIONING OF THE
CLOCKSPRING AND PREVENT ANY DAMAGE TO THIS UNIT.

5.

Remove steering wheel retaining nut.

6.

On vehicles equipped with automatic transmission, remove damper assembly (G/J-body only).

7.

Remove steering wheel with tool #C3428B.

NOTE:

DO NOT BEAT, POUND, OR HAMMER ON STEERING SHAFT TO REMOVE STEERING WHEEL.

Installation

1.

With the road wheels in the straight-ahead position, install the steering wheel on the steering column, making sure to pull the clockspring wire
