Pry out wiring trough retainers and lift off wiring trough. New retainers may be required for reassembly.

Use special socket #6239 to remove the airbag module from the steering wheel.

Remove the steering wheel.
5.
Remove clockspring as earlier explained. Lay the clockspring off to the side, do not remove.
6.
Standard Column - Remove screw and remove washer/wiper switch.
Tilt Wheel - To remove the washer/wiper switch from a tilt column, refer to the service manual.
7.
Remove the two screws that attach the control stalk sleeve to the washer/wiper switch.
8.
Rotate the control stalk shaft to the full clockwise position and remove the shaft from the switch by pulling straight out of the switch.
Installation
1.
Put the control stalk into the switch and rotate counter clockwise until the two holes on the stalk line up with the ones in the new switch, and put
the two screws in securing the stalk to the switch.
2.
Set new switch and stalk into proper position in column.
3.
Standard Column - Place wiper/ washer switch screw through switch and tighten.
Tilt Column - Refer to service manual.
4.
Replace lock housing cover using the two screws that originally held it in place.
5.
Replace wiring trough.
6.
Replace clockspring making sure there has been no damage done to wiring.
7.
Replace the steering wheel.
8.
Using the special tool, remount the airbag module.
9.
Connect DRB II to ASDM diagnostic connector. (Located at right side of console on G/J-body and at right kick panel on M-body.)
10.
From PASSENGER side of vehicle, turn the ignition key to "ON" position. Exit vehicle with DRB II.
11.
After checking that no one is inside the vehicle, reconnect the negative battery terminal.
12.
Using the DRB II, read and record any fault data including stored faults.
13.
Refer to the Diagnostic Test Manual if any faults found in previous steps.
14.
Erase fault codes using DRB II.
NOTE:
IF PROBLEMS REMAIN, FAULT CODES WILL NOT ERASE.
15.
From the PASSENGER side of vehicle, turn the ignition key to "OFF," then "ON", and observe the instrument cluster airbag light. The light
should go on for 6 to 8 seconds, then go out. The system is functioning normal.
NOTICE:
IF AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT EITHER FAILS TO LIGHT OR GOES ON AND STAYS ON; THERE IS A SYSTEM
MALFUNCTION. YOU MUST REFER TO THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST MANUAL AND USE THE DRB II TO PROPERLY
DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM.
Steering Column Speed Control Switch (Turn Signal Lever)
WARNING:
BEFORE BEGINNING ANY AIRBAG SYSTEM INSTALLATION OF REMOVAL PROCEDURES, REMOVE AND ISOLATE THE
NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY CABLE (GROUND) FROM THE VEHICLE BATTERY.
THE SPECIFIED FASTENERS, SCREWS, AND BOLTS MUST NEVER BE REPLACED WITH ANY SUBSTITUTES. ANY TIME A NEW
FASTENER IS NEEDED. YOU MUST REPLACE WITH THE CORRECT ONES PROVIDED IN THE SERVICE PACKAGE OR ONES LISTED
IN THE PARTS BOOKS.
