Removing and replacing the backlite on the 1983-1/2 Chrysler New Yorker is accomplished from the inside of the vehicle. This procedure eliminates
the need to disturb the landau top.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Parts Required:
1 - Mopar Backlite Kit
PN 4057957
1 - Mopar Auto Glass Adhesive and PN 2298825
Sealer 1 - Mopar Silicone Rubber Sealer (RTV) PN 4026070
Removal
1.
Disconnect battery. From inside the trunk, disconnect power lead and ground wires from backlite. Power lead left side, ground lead right side.
2.
Place protective covering on all areas around deck lid and secure with masking tape.
3.
Remove rear seat cushion and seat back.
4.
Remove ten (10) Phillips head screws from the backlite garnish moulding and remove the moulding. Remove rear shelf panel.
5.
Drill out the pop rivets and remove the backlite retainer brackets (three brackets across the top and one on each side).
6.
Using a vacuum cleaner, remove all broken glass. Completely clean fence.
Installation
1.
From inside the car, position backlite in opening and mark. Remove backlite and lay on a padded bench.
NOTE:
This may require two (2) men.
2.
Using materials from Mopar Backlite Kit PN 4057957, prime fence and backlite. Apply butyl tape to fence. Install backlite and pressurize.
NOTE:
This may require two (2) men.
3.
Using new pop rivets, install the five (5) backlite retainer brackets.
NOTE:
Prior to installing rivets, coat rivets and area around holes with Mopar Silicone Rubber Sealer (RTV) PN 4026070.
4.
Clean backlite and water test. If any leaks are found, seal with Mopar Auto Glass Adhesive and Sealer PN 2298825.
5.
Remove protective covering and tape from deck lid. From inside the trunk, connect the power leads. (Connect the battery and verify electric
