Brake Pad: Service and Repair
New Brake Pad Burnishing
STANDARD PROCEDURE - NEW BRAKE SHOE BURNISHING
When new brake shoes are installed on a vehicle, this procedure must be used to correctly burnish (seat) the brake lining to the braking disc.
1. Accelerate the vehicle to a steady speed of 65 km/h (40 mph).
2. Using light brake pedal pressure, slow the vehicle from 65 km/h (40 mph) to 0 in approximately 6 seconds.
3. Accelerate back to 65 km/h (40 mph) and remain at that speed approximately one minute to allow the brakes to cool down.
4. Repeat the above steps it; to 90 times to correctly seat the brake lining material.
