Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair
Accumulator - Removal
REMOVAL
WARNING: Review safety precautions and warnings before performing this procedure See: Service Precautions/Warning and See: Service
Precautions/Caution . Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: The accumulator tubes are serviced separately from the A/C accumulator.
NOTE: LHD model shown. RHD model similar.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant systemSee: Service and Repair/Refrigerant System Recovery.
3. If equipped, relocate the vehicle speed control servo as necessary to access the A/C accumulator (10) See: Cruise Control/Cruise Control
Servo/Service and Repair/Speed Control Servo - Removal.
4. If equipped with 2.4L Turbo engine, remove the purge solenoid from its mounting bracket and position it out of the way See: Powertrain
Management/Emission Control Systems/Evaporative Emissions System/Canister Purge Solenoid/Service and Repair/Removal.
5. Disconnect the wire harness connector (12) from the A/C low pressure switch (6) and remove the switch from the A/C accumulator.
6. Remove the two nuts (3) that secure the A/C suction line (1) and the A/C liquid line (2) to the accumulator tubes (4) and disconnect the lines.
7. Remove the bolts (5) that secure the accumulator tubes to the top of the A/C accumulator.
8. Remove the two bolts (9) that secure the accumulator tube block (4) to the evaporator tube tapping block (7) and disconnect and remove the
accumulator tubes.
9. Disengage the accumulator mounting bracket from the rubber grommet (11) located on the right frame rail (8) by pulling straight upward on the
A/C accumulator.
10. Remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets and install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the accumulator and
evaporator ports.
11. If equipped with 2.4L Turbo engine, remove the purge solenoid mounting bracket from the accumulator bracket.
