Flash: Engine Sag or Rough Idle or Vehicle Surge at Engine Speeds Around 3000 RPM
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to all 2001 and 2002 PT vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine (sales code EDZ) and a manual transmission.
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to all 2003 PT vehicles equipped with a 2.4L Turbo engine (sales code EDV) and a manual transmission.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
For all 2001 and 2002 PT vehicles equipped with a 2.4L naturally aspirated engine (sales code EDZ) and a manual transmission, the vehicle operator
may describe rough idle or engine sag during the first few vehicle launches while cold, ambient temperatures above above -6.6° C (20° F) or steady state
vehicle surge at engine speeds around 3000 rpm.
For all 2003 PT vehicles equipped with a 2.4L Turbo engine (sales code EDV) and manual transmission, the vehicle operator may describe rough idle or
engine sag during the first few vehicle launches while cold, ambient temperatures above -6.6° C (20°F).
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (DRBIII(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures Manual, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are
present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
