Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair

1. Remove remote ground cable from stud located on LH strut tower, then remove wiring harness connector from speed control servo.
2. Remove Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose from intake manifold, then remove bolt attaching air chamber to intake manifold and loosen

clamp attaching air inlet hose to throttle body.

3. Remove air inlet hose, air cleaner lid and air chamber as an assembly.
4. Remove throttle cable and speed control cable from throttle body, then remove vacuum hose from throttle body.
5. Remove wiring harness connectors from Automatic Idle Speed (AIS) motor and throttle position sensor, then remove throttle body from intake

manifold.

6. Remove throttle cable and speed control cable mounting bracket from intake manifold. Do not remove cables from bracket.
7. Remove EGR tube from intake manifold and EGR valve.
8. Remove two speed control servo mounting bracket nuts, then move speed control servo out of way. Do not remove speed control cable from servo.
9. Remove primary and secondary brake tubes from master cylinder assembly, then remove master cylinder from brake booster.

10. Remove vacuum harness connector and electrical connector from purge control solenoid.
11. Remove purge control solenoid bracket bolt, then remove purge control solenoid.
12. Remove dipstick and dipstick tube from transaxle as an assembly.
13. Remove vacuum hoses from check valve located on brake booster.
14. Disconnect brake booster input rod from brake pedal pin, then remove brake booster mounting nuts and brake booster.
15. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:

a. Install brake booster mounting nuts and torque to 21 ft. lbs.
b. Connect brake tubes to master cylinder primary and secondary ports and torquetube nuts to 12 ft. lbs.
