SUBJECT:
MIL Illumination with Evaporative System DIG's P0440 or P0457
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves following the appropriate diagnostic procedures found in DealerCONNECT>TechCONNECT, correcting the condition for the
DTC's, replacing the Evaporative System Integrity Module (ES IM) Vent Filter with an improved design and replacing the ESIM as necessary.
MODELS:
2007

NOTE:
This bulletin does not apply to vehicles that received Service Action RRT 07-018 dated May 11, 2007 or are built after April 20, 2007
(MDH0420XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may have an Evaporative System Integrity Monitor, (ESIM) vent filter that may allow water to pass by the filter and into the evaporative
system. Water penetration past the filter may cause premature failure of the ESIM Detector (switch) contacts. This may cause MIL illumination with
DTC's P0440 or P0457 - EVAP System - Loose Fuel Gap.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in DealerCONNECT>TechCONNEGT, verify all engine
systems are functioning as designed.
If DTC's other than those listed above are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If Evaporative System DTC's are present, use the diagnostic procedures found in DealerCONNEGT>TechCONNECT to make the appropriate repairs to
the system. Once the repairs are made using standard procedures and labor operations, inspect the ESIM vent filter for a series of vent holes along the
lower circumference of the filter. Are vent holes found in the filter?
