Valve Spring: Service and Repair
Inspection
Valve Springs-Inspection
(1) Check the valve spring for nicks or scrape which could lead to breakage.
(2) Check the free length of each spring, which must be;
41 i 0.5 mm (1.164 i 0.019 in.).
(3) Inspect each valve spring for squareness with a steel square and surface plate, test springs from both ends.
If the spring is more than 1.5mm (1/16) out of square, install a new spring.
