Rear A/C Expansion Valve

9. Remove the metal retaining strap from the rear A/C expansion valve.

10. Remove the two bolts that secure the rear A/C expansion valve to the rear evaporator and remove the expansion valve.
11. Remove and discard the O-ring seals from the rear evaporator and install plugs in, or tape over the opened rear evaporator tube fittings and all rear

expansion valve ports.

INSTALLATION

1. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened rear evaporator tube fittings and all rear expansion valve ports.
2. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the rear evaporator tube fittings. Use only the specified O-rings

as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the
vehicle.

3. Install the rear A/C expansion valve onto the rear evaporator tube tapping block which extends through the rear floor panel behind the right rear

wheel housing and install the two bolts that secure the expansion valve to the tapping block. Tighten the bolts to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).

CAUTION:  The metal retaining strap which engages the sealing plate must be positioned so that the notch in the strap is facing the rear 
refrigerant liquid rear extension line. Failure to properly orient the retaining strap prior to extension line installation will cause a refrigerant leak
and possible damage to the liquid extension line.

4. Install the metal retaining strap onto the stud of the rear A/C expansion valve. Make sure the notch in the strap is facing toward the rear of the

vehicle.

5. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened underbody refrigerant rear extension line fittings.
6. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the underbody refrigerant rear extension line fittings. Use only

the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a refrigerant system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for
the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

7. Connect the underbody refrigerant rear extension lines to the rear A/C expansion valve and engage the metal retaining strap to the sealing plate.
8. Loosely install the nut that secures the underbody refrigerant rear extension lines and sealing plate to the rear A/C expansion valve.
9. Connect the underbody refrigerant rear extension lines to the underbody refrigerant lines and tighten the fitting nuts to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.).

10. Tighten the nut that secures the underbody refrigerant rear extension lines and sealing plate to the rear A/C expansion valve to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.).
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
13. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
14. Charge the refrigerant system.
