Steering Gear: Service and Repair
With RHD Gear
STEERING GEAR - RHD
REMOVAL
1. Remove cap from power steering fluid reservoir.
2. Using a siphon pump, remove as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.
CAUTION: Locking the steering column in the straight-ahead position will prevent the clockapring from being accidentally over-extended
when the steering column is disconnected from the Intermediate shaft coupler.
3. Position the steering wheel in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position. Lock the steering wheel in place using a steering wheel holding tool.
4. With the vehicle on the ground, disconnect the steering column coupler from the steering gear intermediate shaft.
5. Using a brake pedal depressor, move and lock the brake pedal to a position past the first inch of pedal travel. This will prevent brake fluid from
draining out of the master cylinder when the brake tubes are removed from the HCU.
6. Raise and support the vehicle.
7. Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
8. If power steering cooler equipped, remove a hose at the power steering cooler and allow the fluid to drain.
9. Remove the antilock brake integrated control unit (ICU).
10. Remove the brake tubes from the routing clips located on the cradle crossmember reinforcement.
