Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Exhaust System - AWD Minivans
Removal
1.
Remove clamp holding muffler to converter.
2.
Remove muffler from converter (it may be necessary to heat the pipe connection).
3.
Remove clamp securing converter to header pipe.
4.
Remove converter from header pipe (it may be necessary to heat the pipe connection).
Installation
1.
Install converter to header pipe with a new clamp.
2.
Reposition rear exhaust pipe hanger.
3.
Install muffler to converter with a new clamp.
4.
Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks
Note:
Replace any missing or damaged heat shields.
Removal
1.
Support exhaust system and remove hangers, support brackets, and front exhaust down pipe flange bolts.
2.
Remove exhaust assembly from vehicle.
3.
Remove clamps that secure down pipes to converter and remove down pipes from converter (it may be necessary to heat the pipe connection).
4.
Inspect length of replacement converter. Cut intermediate pipe behind converter to proper length for reassembly.
Installation
1.
Fit intermediate pipe to replacement converter.
2.
Fit down pipes to converter.
3.
loosely install necessary clamps to converter.
4.
Fit exhaust assembly to vehicle. Reinstall hangers, support brackets, and down pipe flange bolts.
5.
Start engine and inspect for exhaust leaks.
Note:
replace any missing or damaged heat shields.
