Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair
Fig. 1 Exploded View Of Drum Brake Assembly.
Refer to Fig. 1 when servicing drum brake system.
1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2.
Remove rear brake shoes as previously described.
3.
Disconnect the brake tube from the wheel cylinder, using line wrench No. 09751-36011-000 or equivalent.
4.
Remove wheel cylinder attaching bolts, then remove the wheel cylinder from the backing plate.
5.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply a suitable lubricant to pistons and cups, then install the spring and two piston cups into wheel cylinder.
b. Apply suitable lubricant to inside of boots, then insert them into cylinder.
c. Torque bolts to specification.
d. Install brake tube to wheel cylinder and torque to specification.
