If there is noticeable wear on the belt teeth, check the timing cover gasket for damage and check for correct gasket installation. Check for foreign
material on the pulley teeth.
IDLER PULLEY
Idler Inspection
1.
Check the timing belt pulleys for smooth turning.
2.
Check the belt contact surface for damage. If necessary, replace the idler pulley.
CAUTION: Never wash the idler pulley.
TENSION SPRING
Tension Spring Free Length
1.
Check the free length of the spring.
Free Length:
56.5 mm (2.22 inch)
2.
Check the tension of the spring at the specified installation length.
Tension as installed:
3.1 kg at 59.0 mm (6.8 lb at 2.33 inch)
If the tension does not conform to the specification, replace the spring.
