Idle Speed Control VSV: Testing and Inspection

1.

With the ignition switch off, disconnect connectors and vacuum hoses from the idle speed control VSV.

2.

Ensure resistance between the terminals on the idle speed control VSV is 10-50 ohms.

Connect a rubber hose to the idle speed control VSV. Ensure that resistance is felt while blowing through hose.

4.

Apply battery voltage to the idle speed control VSV. Ensure that no resistance is felt while blowing through hose.

5.

Connect connectors and vacuum hoses to idle speed control VSV.

6.

Connect the ECU test harness.

7.

With ignition key in the ON position, ensure there is 3 volts or less on 1.6L/4-97 engines and 4 volts or less on 1.3L/4-79 engines between
terminals 40 and 39 (-).

8.

If voltage is not as specified, perform ECU test as outlined under ``System Diagnostic Check.''

9.

Remove cap from check connector and install check connector harness, Fig. 3.

10.

Connect the brown terminal with the black ground terminal on the test harness.

11.

Ensure voltage between terminals 40 and 39 (-) is approximately battery voltage.

12.

If voltage is not as specified, check wiring between battery and ECU terminal 40. If no problems are found, perform ECU test as outlined under
``System Diagnostic Check.''
