Fuel Pump Relay: Testing and Inspection
1.
Turn ignition switch on while listening for relay operation.
2.
Disconnect circuit opening relay.
3.
Inspect relay condition as follows:
a. Ensure resistance of 10-40 ohms between terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 75.

b. Ensure resistance of 100-200 ohms between terminals 3 and 5.
c. Ensure there is no continuity between terminals 4 and 5, 1 and 3, 1 and 4, 1 and 5 or 5 and 2.
d. If relay does not meet specifications, replace relay.
4.
Inspect relay operation as follows:
a. Apply battery voltage to terminals 5 and 3, Fig. 76.

b. Ensure battery voltage at terminal 4.
c. Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 77.

d. Ensure battery voltage between terminals 5 and 3.
5.
If the relay is still inoperative after steps 3 and 4, ensure the condition of the following related components:
a. Fusible links, ignition switch, all fuses, main relay, wiring and connectors and ECU.
b. If any related component is found defective repair or replace then repeat this procedure.
c. If no related component is found defective, replace circuit opening relay.
