Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair

1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove rear wheels.
3.
Remove backing plate as follows:
a. Remove grease cap, cotter pin, lock cap and nut.
b. Remove brake drum and inner bearing retainer.
c. Disconnect brake tube from wheel cylinder.
d. Remove backing plate with brake shoe installed.
4.
Remove strut rod attaching bolts. Use new bolts when installing.
5.
Remove front and rear suspension arm attaching bolts.
6.
Remove strut assembly lower attaching bolts and then the carrier.
7.
Reverse procedure to install, torquing all suspension bolts to specification only after weight of vehicle is on suspension.
