Brake Pad: Service and Repair
Cleaning and Inspection
Brake Lining Inspection
1. Inspect pad lining for wear. Replace riveted lining if worn to within 1/16 of rivet heads. Replace bonded lining if thickness is 3/16 or less.
2. If pads are to be reused, do not intermix them. Keep pads with the caliper they were removed from.
3. Inspect caliper area for signs of fluid leaks or damage.
Brake Pads & Calipers
Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings. The wheel bearings should be inspected at this time and repacked if
necessary.
Do not get any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that both front wheel sets be replaced whenever a respective pad is worn or damaged.
Inspect and, if necessary, replace rear brake linings also.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
