Emissions Maintenance Light: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM), keeps track of vehicle mileage by monitoring vehicle speed sensor (VSS), and illuminates the Service
Reminder Indicator (SRI) light at 60,000 miles, 82,500 miles, and 120,000 miles to inform driver that emission system maintenance is required.
After recommended maintenance has been performed mileage counter in the PCM must be reset [1]. Reseting SRI light without performing
required maintenance may be in violation of federal law. Only after performing required maintenance, should SRI light be reset.
NOTE: If PCM is replaced, current mileage must be entered into memory of new PCM.
Manufacturer recommends performing the following procedures at these intervals:
EVERY 60,000 miles
82,500 miles
Replace EGR Valve
Replace Oxygen Sensor
Replace EGR Tube (if equipped)
Clean EGR passage
Replace PCV Valve
[1] Resetting SRI lamp requires scan tool, follow manufacturers instructions for reset procedures.
