Timing Cover Gasket: Service and Repair
Front Cover Seal Replacement
1. Remove fan blade assembly.
2. Lift belt tensioner and remove fan belt.
3. Remove damper bolts and the vibration damper.
4. Drill two 1/8 holes into the seal face, 180° apart.
5. Use a slide hammer with a number ten screw and pull, alternating from side to side, until seal is free.
6. Before installing seal, apply a bead of Loctite 277 to outside diameter of the seal.
7. Install the pilot from the seal kit onto crankshaft, then place seal onto the pilot and start it into front cover seal bore. Remove pilot.
8. Use the alignment/installation tool from seal kit and a plastic hammer to install seal to the correct depth.
9. Install vibration damper, but do not tighten bolts.
10. Install belt and tighten damper bolts to specifications.
