Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Timing Chain Cover Replacement
1. Remove fan blade and drive assembly.
2. Lift belt tensioner and remove fan belt.
3. Remove tensioner bolts and belt tensioner.
4. Remove upper oil filler tube bolt, oil filler tube and adapter.
5. Remove vibration damper and front oil seal.
6. Remove bolts holding gear cover to gear housing, then gently pry the cover away from the housing.
7. Remove cover from the engine.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install front cover and start cover bolts; then, using alignment/installation tool from seal kit, align cover to crankshaft. Tighten bolts to
specifications.
b. Install front seal as outlined under "Front Cover Seal, Replace."
