This service is applicable to all 1982-1/2 and 1983 models built after March 15, 1982 (MDH 03-15-XX) equipped with a close coupled catalyst and 2.2L
engine.
SYMPTOM/OONDITION
Subject model vehicles may exhibit an audible buzzing or light rattle emitting from the front (close coupled) catalyst at 1200 to 1500 rpm. This noise can
be caused by the catalyst air injection distribution tube vibrating against the catalyst air tube adapter.
DIAGNOSIS
1.. Verify that the noise is not due to a loose underhood or underbody component.
2.
After catalyst has cooled, tap lightly with a rubber mallet to verify rattle.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Remove air injection delivery tube from catalyst.
