Ignition Lock: Service and Repair
EXC. HORIZON, OMNI, CHARGER & TURISMO
Models Less Tilt Column
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove turn signal switch as described under "Turn Signal Switch, Replace."
3.
Disconnect horn and ignition key lamp ground wires, then remove ignition key lamp attaching screw and lamp.
4.
Remove four screws attaching upper bearing housing to lock housing and the snap ring from upper end of steering shaft, then the upper bearing
housing.
5.
Remove lock plate spring and lock plate from steering shaft.
6.
Position lock cylinder in Lock position and remove ignition key.
7.
Remove key warning buzzer attaching screws and buzzer.
8.
Remove two screws attaching ignition switch to steering column, then rotate switch 90° and slide from rod.
9.
Remove two screws attaching dimmer switch, then disengage dimmer switch from actuator rod.
10.
Remove two bellcrank attaching screws, then slide bellcrank up into lock housing until it can be disconnected from ignition switch actuator rod.

With lock cylinder in Lock position, insert a small diameter screwdriver into lock cylinder release holes and push inward until spring loaded lock
cylinder retainers release.
12.
Grasp lock cylinder and pull from lock housing bore.
13.
Reverse procedure to install. The lock cylinder and ignition switch must be in the Lock position.
