Power Steering Belt Alignment
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves performing one of two procedures (depending on build range) to align the power steering system.
MODELS:
1995 - 1999 (FJ) Avenger/Sebring/Talon
NOTE:
THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.0L NATURALLY ASPIRATED ENGINE (NON TURBO). SEE
PROCEDURE "A" FOR VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO SEPT 19, 1997 (MDH 0919XX). SEE PROCEDURE "B" FOR 1998 MODELS BUILT
BETWEEN SEPT 19, 1997 AND NOV. 1, 1997 (MDH 0919XX & 1101XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The power steering belt may track incorrectly and cause irregular wear or noise. This condition can be caused by mis-alignment of the power steering
pump pulley.
DIAGNOSIS:
Non A/C Equipped
Visually inspect the alignment of the power steering pump pulley to the crankshaft pulley. If poor alignment is not clearly visible, use a straightedge to
check alignment (Figure 1). The power steering pump pulley should be close to parallel with the crank pulley.
