Clutch Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
The clutch master cylinder, remote reservoir, slave cylinder and connecting lines can only be serviced as an assembly. Because these components are
sealed units and cannot be serviced separately, there is no provision for bleeding the hydraulic clutch system.
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. On models equipped with diesel engine, remove slave cylinder shield from clutch housing.
3. remove slave cylinder attaching nuts, then the slave cylinder.
4. Remove hydraulic line from under vehicle body clips.
5. Disconnect clutch pedal interlock switch, then lower vehicle.
6. Carefully remove locating clip, then the retaining ring, flat washer and wave washer that attach clutch master cylinder pushrod to clutch pedal.
7. Slide clutch master cylinder pushrod off clutch pedal pin.
8. Inspect condition of bushing on clutch pedal pin and replace if necessary.
9. Ensure master cylinder reservoir cap is tight, then remove reservoir to bracket attaching screws.
10. Remove reservoir mounting bracket, then rotate master cylinder 45° counterclockwise to unlock and remove from dash panel.
11. Remove clutch cylinders, reservoir and connecting lines from vehicle.
12. Reverse procedure to install. Torque slave cylinder attaching nuts to 16.5 ft-lbs. and check for leaks.
