Customer Satisfaction Notification #253T -- Front Wheel Hub and Bearing Assembly Attachment to Steering Knuckle
Models:
1987 Extended Wheelbase (119") Plymouth Voyagers and Dodge Caravans Equipped With Eight Passenger Seating
The earliest of the above model vehicles delivered to dealers require immediate service to ensure proper attachment of the front wheel hub and bearing
assemblies (both sides) to the steering knuckles. One or more of the four assembly attaching bolts may have been inadvertently omitted during assembly.
This could allow the attachment to loosen in service, resulting in noise, vibration through the steering column, and bearing damage.
The suspect vehicles invoiced to you are identified on the enclosed listing. They must be inspected and corrected if necessary, to ensure all the bolts are
installed.
Listed vehicles still in dealer inventory should be repaired immediately, prior to retail delivery. If you have delivered a listed vehicle, please contact your
customer to return it as soon as possible for this service.
Service Procedure
Note:
Refer to pages 2-2 and 2-3 of the 1987 Front Wheel Drive Van/Wagon Service Manual Supplement (#81-370-7005A) to identify the
components involved.
1.
From under the vehicle, inspect the four holes in the back of each knuckle (around the wheel drive shafts) to see if a bolt is in each hole. Turn the
wheels if required to see the bolt ends in the holes.
2.
If all bolts (four per side) are present, no further service is required.
3.
If any bolts are missing, disassemble components as required (wheel, brake caliper, rotor etc.) to gain access to the bolt heads. See Figure 7 and 8
on Page 2-3 of the Service Manual.
4.
Replace any missing bolt (PN 6501596) and tighten all four bolts on that side to 45 ft.lbs. (Should they be needed, two of the specified bolts are
provided with this package.)
5.
Reassemble components removed in step 3.
