Knocking Sound From Lower Steering Column
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing stainless steel interference ring to the lower steering shaft.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle may exhibit a knocking sound coming from the lower steering column area.
DIAGNOSIS:
With the engine turned off, rotate the steering wheel clockwise and counter clockwise in a cyclical fashion using a small amount of force. Listen and feel
for a knocking sound coming from the lower steering column area. If the sound is present, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the steering column. Refer to the service information available in TechCONNECT or the appropriate service manual, Section 19, Column,
Removal.
2. Place the steering column on a suitable bench.
3. CS vehicles proceed to step 6. RG/RS vehicles proceed to next step.
4. Remove the clock spring. Refer to the service information available in TechCONNECT or the appropriate service manual, Section 80, Restraints,
Clock spring, Removal.
