Recall for Faulty ABS High Pressure Hose & Pump | Caravan AWD V6-201 (1991)

The normal working pressure of the anti-lock brake boost system is 1,650 to 2,050 psi. System pressure must be pumped down before any pressure
lines are loosened or disconnected. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

To reduce system pressure:
-
Turn ignition switch off.

apply brakes 45 to 50 times (until pedal is firm).

The accumulator tank and small accumulator on the booster pump contain high pressure gas charges. Do not puncture or attempt to disassemble
either of these components at any time.

Wear safety goggles when disconnecting fluid lines.
^
Keep work area clean. Avoid contamination of system components with dirt or foreign material.
^
Use only new Mopar brake fluid or equivalent meeting SAE J1703 and DOT 3 standards.
^
Prevent brake fluid from contacting painted surfaces. If contact occurs, flush thoroughly with water.
I.
Preparation
1.
Pump the brake system pressure down by turning the ignition off and applying the brake pedal approximately 45-50 times, until the pedal
becomes firm.
2.
Disconnect the battery ground.
3.
Remove the fresh air intake duct and air cleaner assembly from the vehicle.

II. Inspection of Pump and Inspection/Replacement of High Pressure Hose
1.
Remove the bolt (Figure 1) which retains both the heat shield and pump.
2.
Lift the pump heat shield up into the opening above it.
3.
Pull the pump up and forward to free the rubber isolation grommets from the mounting bracket. Rotate the pump 90 degrees and look at the
bar code label on the driver's side of the pump.
