Door Ajar Lamp Comes On and Chimes Sound While Driving 1991-92 AS Vehicles

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Vehicle "Door Ajar" lamp may illuminate/flicker and the warning chimes sound even though the sliding side door is closed. When equipped with
automatic door locks, the locks may try to lock repeatedly even though they are already locked.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair involves replacement of the sliding side door ajar switch on the C-pillar with a revised switch.

1.

Disconnect negative battery cable.

2.

Remove the sliding side door ajar switch from the C-pillar. Disconnect switch from wiring connector.

3.

Install new switch into connector and install switch into C-pillar.  NOTE:  The switch is self adjusting and will automatically adjust to the
correct position when the door is closed.

4.

Connect negative battery cable and verify the door ajar lamp is operating properly.

Sliding Door Ajar Switch, Supplements

SUBJECT:

1991/1992 MINIVAN SLIDING DOOR AJAR SWITCH

To assure the highest level of customer satisfaction, all 1991 and 1992 (built prior to MDH 0906XX) minivans in dealer stock should have the sliding
door ajar switch inspected before delivery to the customer. This is the switch located on the "C" pillar at the rear shut face of the sliding door.

These vehicles may experience cycling of the door locks while driving. In addition, the "Door Ajar" light, or chimes may also operate while driving,
even though the door is properly closed. This condition is caused by a faulty sliding door ajar switch.

To prevent the possibility of delivering a vehicle with this condition, each dealer is requested to inspect the sliding door ajar switch "O" ring (located
near the tip of the switch plunger) for color. If the "O" ring is orange, the switch is not suspect and no further action is required.

If the "O" ring is black, replace the switch with P/N 4687557, using the repair procedure described in TSB 08-15-91, dated October 21, 1991.
