Fuel Gauge Inaccuracy

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-01-91 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES.  THE

(FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE ONLY)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

With the fuel gauge indicating empty, it takes only 14 to 15 gallons to fill the fuel tank. The fuel tank may actually have 5 to 6 gallons remaining when
the gauge reads empty.  This may be caused by an inaccurate fuel level sending unit.  Vehicles experiencing this condition should have the following
repair procedure performed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This procedure involves replacement of the fuel level sending unit with a revised sending unit.

1.

Remove the fuel level sending unit as described in the 1991 Front Wheel Drive Van Service Manual (Publication # 81-370-1105).

2.

Install the new fuel level sending unit onto the fuel pump and install the fuel pump as described in the instruction sheet included in the parts
package.

3.

Check for fuel leaks.
