THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES.
DISCUSSION:
The following procedure should be followed when an oil change is recommended under the "Severe Usage" oil change schedule.
1.
With the vehicle on a hoist, position a drain pan under the P.T.U. (Power Transfer Unit). Remove the oil fill plug from the side of the P.T.U. and
let the residual oil drain out (See Illustrations).
2.
Remove the large black plastic inspection plug from the front of the P.T.U. Insert the drain hose from a siphon pump into the opening and feed the
hose to the bottom of the sump. Pump the gear oil from the P.T.U.
3.
When all the gear oil has been evacuated from the P.T.U, reinstall the inspection plug and tighten to 180 In.Lbs. (20 N-m).
4.
Fill the P.T.U. to the bottom edge of the fill plug using Mopar 80W-90, P/N 82300026, or equivalent gear lubricant meeting API specification
GL-5. The fill capacity is approximately 1.22 quarts (1.15 liters). Reinstall the fill plug and tighten to 240 In.Lbs. (27 N-m).
