Door Module - Description
DESCRIPTION
Vehicles equipped with certain options are equipped with an electronic door control module (also known as the Driver Door Module/DDM or Passenger
Door Module/PDM) on both the driver and passenger front doors. Two distinct variations of these modules are used, one with receptacles for up to four
wire harness connectors (1) and the other with receptacles for only two wire harness connectors (2). The base two-connector module is used on vehicles
with express up and express down (also known as one touch) power windows without the optional memory system. One four-connector module is for
vehicles with the express power windows and the memory system, but without turn signal and puddle lamps in the outside rear view mirrors. A second
four-connector module is used for vehicles with the express power windows, the memory system and with turn signal and puddle lamps in the outside
rear view mirrors.
Each door control module contains a Central Processor Unit (CPU) and communicates with the other door control module as well as other electronic
modules in the vehicle over the Controller Area Network (CAN) B data bus system. Concealed within the molded plastic door control module housing is
the printed circuit board and the other electronic circuitry of the module. The door control modules are connected to the vehicle electrical system through
up to four connector receptacles that are integral to the module housing. Each door control module is concealed behind the front door trim panel where it
is secured through two integral mounting tabs to the inner door panel by two push-in plastic fasteners. The door control modules are located near the rear
of the inner door panel.
A door control module cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced. The door control module software is flash
programmable.
