SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle emits a sulphur smell from the exhaust pipe.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
Referring to the procedures outlined on pages 14-61 through 14-63 of the 1988 Colt Service Manual (Publication # 81-270-8011, also used in
steps 5 and 6), connect the ECI checker (tool number MD998455) and harness connector D to the vehicle's ECU and harness connectors.
2.
Set the select switch of the ECI checker to position "B" and the check switch to position "8", and warm up the engine to normal operating
temperature.
3.
Run the engine at idle for two minutes.
4.
Raise engine RPM to 2500 and hold while checking the output voltage of the oxygen sensor. The voltage should pulsate between 0.3 and 0.6 volts.
If the voltage is not within specifications, replace the oxygen sensor.
5.
Referring to the procedures outlined on pages 0-14 and 0-15, check the engine's basic timing and idle speed and adjust, if necessary.
6.
Referring to the procedures outlined on page 25-36, inspect the secondary air supply system.
7.
If the sulphur smell is still present after performing the steps above, proceed with the following repair.
