Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Front Caliper
One Piece Pin Type Caliper

BRAKE PADS REPLACE
1.
Remove approximately 1/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder.
2.
Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
3.
Remove lock pin, then lift caliper assembly upwards. Support caliper assembly with suitable piece of wire to prevent damage to brake hose.
4.
Remove inner shim, anti-squeak shim and brake pad assemblies from support mounting.
5.
Press caliper piston into caliper bore with suitable tool.
6.
Install pad clips "B" and "C", pad assemblies, inner shims and anti-squeak shims into support mounting.
7.
Lower caliper body, then install lock pin. Refer to torque specifications.
8.
Depress brake pedal several times to seat pads, then check and replenish brake fluid as necessary.
9.
Install wheel and tire assembly and lower vehicle.
CALIPER REPLACE
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2.
Disconnect brake hose at caliper strut, then at the brake caliper.
3.
Remove support mounting to steering knuckle attaching bolts, then the front brake assembly.
4.
Remove brake pads, then separate caliper body from support mounting.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. Refer to torque specifications.
CALIPER OVERHAUL
1.
Remove caliper as described under "Caliper, Replace."
2.
Remove boot ring from caliper body.
3.
Place shop towel in saddle of caliper body, then apply compressed air to brake fluid inlet to force piston from bore. Remove piston. Keep hands
away from front of piston during removal. Apply compressed air slowly to ease piston from bore.
4.
Remove piston seal using caution not to scratch cylinder walls.
5.
Clean piston and cylinder wall surfaces with brake fluid or alcohol.
6.
Remove sleeve and boot from caliper body.
7.
Inspect cylinder and piston for wear, damage and/or corrosion. Inspect caliper body and sleeve for wear.
8.
Apply brake fluid to caliper body cylinder walls.
9.
Apply an even coat of brake grease to piston seal, then install seal in caliper bore.
