Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
Master Cylinder Replacement
1.
On Stealth models, disconnect low-pressure hose.
2.
On all models, disconnect brake fluid sensor electrical connector from master cylinder reservoir.
3.
Position a drain pan under the master cylinder, then drain master cylinder.
4.
On models with separately mounted reservoir, disconnect reservoir hoses from the master cylinder.
5.
On all models, use a suitable wrench to disconnect brake lines from the master cylinder. Plug all lines and fittings.
6.
Remove master cylinder-to-brake booster attaching nuts.
7.
On Colt, Colt Vista and Summit models, remove proportioning valve.
8.
On all models, pull master cylinder outward and away from brake booster.
9.
Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Prior to master cylinder installation, check brake booster pushrod-to-primary piston clearance as described, refer to ADJUSTMENTS and
adjust if necessary.
b. Fill master cylinder reservoir, then bleed hydraulic system, refer to Brakes and Traction Control/Brakes/Service and Repair.
c. On all models except Colt Vista and Conquest, check adjustment of brake pedal, refer to Brakes and Traction Control/Brakes/Hydraulic
System/Brake Pedal Assy/Adjustments and adjust if necessary.
