Conquest TSI L4-2555cc 2.6L SOHC Turbo (1986)
Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
1. Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheel.
2. Remove bolts securing caliper support to steering knuckle, remove caliper and support as an assembly leaving hose connected and suspend caliper
from front spring, taking care not to damage brake hose.
3. Remove hub cap, cotter pin, and pin retainer.
4. Remove hub nut, washer and outer bearing, then remove hub and rotor assembly from spindle.
5. Scribe matching marks between hub and rotor. On models less intercooler, remove bolts securing brake rotor to hub, then separate hub and rotor.
On models with intercooler, remove retaining clips and bolts, then separate rotor from hub.
6. Remove oil seal and inner bearing, then drive bearing outer races from hub using suitable drift.
7. Clean hub and bearings with suitable solvent and blow dry with compressed air. Inspect components noting the following:
a. Check fit of bearing outer races in hub. If bearings have "spun" and races are loose in hub, hub should be replaced.
b. Inspect bearings and replace if damaged, scored or excessively worn.
8. Install inner and outer bearing outer races in hub using suitable driver, then pack center of hub with grease.
9. Install brake rotor on hub and align matching marks. On models less intercooler torque nuts to 25-29 ft. lbs. On models with intercooler, install
hub bolts and secure rotor with retaining clips.
10. Pack wheel bearings, working grease through rollers from wide end of bearing with palm of hand. Keep bearings covered until installation.
11. Install inner wheel bearing in hub, then press new seal into hub using suitable driver.
12. Coat seal lips with grease, mount hub assembly on spindle.
13. Install outer bearing, washer and nut, then adjust wheel bearings as outlined.
14. Install caliper assembly and torque caliper support bolts to 51-65 ft. lbs.
