DISASSEMBLE
1.
Raise hood, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove breather hose and PVC. hose from rocker cover.
3.
Remove oil filler cap attaching bolt, then the oil filler cap assembly.
4.
Remove rocker cover, then the gasket.
5.
Rotate crankshaft in normal direction of rotation until No. 1 cylinder is at top dead center and camshaft and crankshaft timing marks are aligned.
6.
Place a chalk mark between timing belt and camshaft sprocket, then remove camshaft sprocket bolt, separate sprocket from camshaft, leaving belt
in place on sprocket. Secure sprocket and belt on lower timing cover. Ensure sprocket does not disengage from belt and fall, and maintain tension
on belt to maintain proper timing. Do not rotate crankshaft after sprocket is removed from camshaft.
7.
Prior to removal of rocker arm and rocker shaft assembly, install auto-lash adjuster holder tool No. MD998443 or equivalent, to ensure that the
auto-lash adjuster is not allowed to fall.
8.
Remove semicircular packing, then the oil seal.
9.
Remove rocker arm and shaft assembly, then the auto-lash adjuster.
10.
Remove camshaft.
INSPECTION
1.
Check rocker arm in the positions indicated in Fig. 16.
2.
Check to ensure that oil holes are clear.
3.
Check rocker arm shaft at rocker arm mounting positions for wear.
4.
Check rocker arm shaft oil holes to ensure holes are clear.
5.
Check camshaft for wear or damage and replace as necessary.
ASSEMBLE
1.
Reverse disassembly procedure to assemble and note the following:
a.
Assemble rocker arms to rocker shafts, then install on cylinder head, Fig. 17.
b.
Apply engine oil to inside diameter of rocker before assembly.
c.
Ensure that oil hole side is down when installing rocker arm shafts into front camshaft bearing cap.
d.
When valve cover is installed, use suitable gasket sealant.
