9. Check to see that the clearance between the outside of the belt and the cover are within the standard value by grasping the tension side (between
the camshaft sprocket and oil pump sprocket) of the center part of the timing belt between the thumb and index finger.
Standard value: 14 mm (0.55 in.)
10. Check to ensure that all timing marks are aligned, then rotate crankshaft one revolution in the normal direction of rotation. Crankshaft should be
rotated smoothly and timing belt should not be pushed or twisted while crankshaft is being rotated. This procedure is performed to apply tension to
the tension side of the timing belt.
11. Loosen tensioner bolt and nut, then tighten tensioner adjusting nut and mounting bolt. Tighten bolts and nut to specification. This procedure is
performed to apply tension to loose side of timing belt.
12. When center of tension side of timing belt and gasket line on undercover are held between thumb and forefinger, clearance between belt and
gasket should be 0.55 inch. If not, readjust as necessary.
13. Remove crankshaft pulley, then install timing belt lower and upper front covers.
14. Install crankshaft pulley and tighten attaching bolts to specification.
