Remove tailgate per service manual procedure.
NOTE:
MARK LOCATION OF HINGES BEFORE LOOSENING HINGE BOLTS.

Repair the damaged area using normal sheet metal repair techniques.

Sand the area on the tailgate under each hinge, shown in Figure 2, down to bare metal. (Essential for maximum reinforcement adhesion.)
4.
Sand and clean the bottom side of the reinforcement plates and apply 1/4 inch bead of epoxy the entire length of the plates.

Position and clamp both reinforcement plates to inner side of tailgate. (Figure 3)
CAUTION: USE CARE (WOOD BLOCKS, ETC.) WHEN CLAMPING SO AS NOT TO DAMAGE PANEL.
6.
Wipe off excess epoxy around each plate to seal and create a smooth finish.
7.
Let epoxy dry overnight before proceeding.
8.
Refinish tailgate in repaired area as well as over reinforcement plates.
9.
Install tape stripe as required.
NOTE:
VEHICLE MUST BE OUT OF SERVICE, OR TAILGATE MUST NOT HAVE HEAVY OBJECT LAID ON IT FOR 24 HOURS
AFTER REPAIR.
