Fuel Gauge: Testing and Inspection
1.
Disconnect wiring connector from fuel gauge unit. Ground connector at harness through a test light.
2.
Turn ignition switch to On position.
3.
If test light and gauge operate, circuit to gauge is normal and gauge unit is faulty.
3.
If test light flashes but gauge does not operate, gauge is faulty.
4.
If test light does not flash and gauge does not operate, fuel gauge circuit is faulty.
5.
If voltage regulator has a poor ground connection, excessive current flowing through heat coil of engine coolant temperature gauge and the fuel
gauge will cause permanent distortion of the bimetal, resulting in gauge readings being consistently lower than actual value. For this reason,
ensure ground contact is secure.
