Voltage Regulator: Testing and Inspection
With C-4133 Tool

TESTING

1.

Disconnect voltage regulator electrical connector.

2.

Using Voltage Regulator Tester tool No. C-4133 or equivalent, plug into suitable 110 volt AC 60 cycle power source.

3.

Connect tester ground to unpainted body ground near regulator.

4.

Install tester to voltage regulator, then place tester knob in test position.

5.

Depress tester test button. Voltage should be within limits as follows: 
a.

If voltage regulator temperature is 80°F or above, green or yellow range should be indicated.

b.

If voltage regulator temperature is 80°F or below, green or blue range should be indicated. 

6.

Holding test button in, depress black button, meter reading should be as indicated: 
a.

If voltage regulator temperature is 80°F or above, green or yellow range should be indicated.

b.

If voltage regulator temperature is 80°F or below, green or blue range should be indicated. 

RESULTS

1.

If tests are within limits, voltage regulator is good.

2.

If regulator tests as faulty, do not replace until regulator ground circuit is checked. Move tester ground lead to regulator connector locking bracket.

3.

Repeat test procedure, if regulator tests good, open ground circuit between regulator case and mounting surface is indicated.

4.

If regulator does not test good, replace.
