Fuel Shut-off Solenoid: Description and Operation
Fuel Solenoid Location
LOCATION
The fuel solenoid is mounted to the injection pump housing.
OPERATION
When the ignition switch is in the ON position, battery voltage is supplied to the fuel solenoid. When it is ENERGIZED, the solenoid lifts its
plunger off its seat allowing fuel to flow to the high pressure head of the injection pump. When the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position,
the solenoid becomes DE-ENERGIZED. When the solenoid is DE-ENERGIZED, its plunger blocks the flow of fuel to the high pressure head of
the injection pump.
A minimum of 10 volts is required to lift the solenoid plunger off of its seat. A minimum of 6 volts is required to hold the solenoid plunger in the
open position.
