Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
A500/A518 4-Speed

Locks Up or Drags In Low or Second

1.

Sticking fail-safe valve.

2.

Sticking switch valve.

3.

Valve body malfunction.

4.

Faulty oil pump. 

Loud Chatter During Lock-Up Engagement (Cold)

1.

Leaking turbine hub seal in converter.

2.

Failed locking clutch in converter. 

No Lock-Up

1.

Faulty input shaft or seal ring.

2.

Leaking turbine hub seal in converter.

3.

Failed locking clutch in converter.

4.

Failed lockup relay.

5.

Failed lockup solenoid.

Solenoid wiring disconnected.
