REPAIR PROCEDURE
This repair involves installing a jumper harness at the transmission. The harness eliminates the torque converter lock-up function. In some cases the
propeller shaft may also require balancing.
NOTE:
THE VEHICLE OWNER MUST BE NOTIFIED THE LOCK-UP TORQUE WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION IN THE LOCK-UP
MODE. DISABLING THE LOCK-UP FUNCTION WILL NOT AFFECT THE TRANSMISSION LIFE.
1.
Disconnect the transmission wiring harness connector from the transmission.
2.
Install the jumper harness PN 83506534 to the harness connector, Figure 1.
3.
Reconnect the harness to the transmission.
4.
Secure jumper harness to transmission with tie strap PN 6015756 as shown in Figure 1.

Road test vehicle. If no vibration is present, return vehicle to owner. If some vibration is still present at the 45 to 55 MPH range, perform step 6.

Balance the propeller shaft using the procedure outlined in the 1989 Rear Wheel Drive Truck Service Manual (publication # 81-370-9008) page
