Wheel Speed Sensor: Adjustments
Checking Sensor Air Gap
1.
Remove speed sensor from differential.
2.
Measure distance (dimension B) between end of sensor pole piece and bottom of sensor flange. Distance should measure 1.07-1.08 in.
(27.17-27.43 mm).
3.
Measure distance (dimension A) between teeth at top of exciter ring and sensor mounting surface of differential case. Distance should measure
1.085-1.120 in. (27.5-28.4 mm).
4.
Subtract dimension B from dimension A. The difference (dimension C) should be 0.005-0.050 in. (0.12-1.27 mm).
5.
If gap is not as specified:
a. If dimension B is not as indicated in step 2, replace sensor.
b. If dimension A is not as indicated in step 3, replace exciter wheel or repair differential.
c. If both dimension A and B are not as indicated, replace the sensor and exciter wheel.
