Service Procedure
Inspection
1.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist and locate the build code tag attached to the rear of the transfer case (Figure 1).
2.
Inspect the "Month-Day" and "Year-Shift" build code on the tag.
3.
If the "Month-Day" is 31 through 38 (March 1st through March 8th) and the shift in the "Year-Shift" is 2, the transfer case is suspect and requires
the repair service below.

4.
If the build date is not March 1st through March 8th and/or the shift is other than 2, the transfer case is not suspect and no further service is
required.

Repair
If the transfer case build is within the parameters described in step 3 of the inspection procedure, the transfer case must be serviced as follows.
1.
Drain the transfer case by removing both the oil fill and drain plugs.
2.
Mark the front prop shaft universal joint and transfer case yoke so that they can be reassembled later in the same position.
3.
Disconnect the universal joint from the front output shaft yoke.
4.
Remove the yoke attaching nut and remove the rubber washer and yoke.
