Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
1987 4-135 & V6-238 ENGINES
The purge solenoid is used on 1987 Dakota models with 4 cylinder or V6 engines. This valve is controlled by the Electronic Spark
Advance/Electronic Fuel Control (ESA/EFC) Module. If any the following conditions are present, the ESA/EFC Module will de-energize the purge
solenoid:
a.
Carburetor switch is open.
b.
Engine temperature is above 90°F.
c.
Engine speed is above 800 RPM.
d.
Vacuum is below 30 inches Hg.
e.
Vehicle speed is above 5 MPH.
f.
A predetermined time of approximately 100 seconds has elapsed.
