Malfunction Lamp / Indicator: Testing and Inspection
The diagnosis found here addresses an inoperative lamp condition. If the airbag indicator lamp stays on with the ignition switch in the On position, or
comes on and stays on while driving, refer to Air Bag Systems for diagnosis.

ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE.
FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIR-BAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE
PERSONAL INJURY.
The airbag indicator lamp has a lamp backup feature. Twenty seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the On position, if the instrument cluster
circuitry has detected an inoperative airbag warning lamp circuit it will flash the seat belt reminder lamp on and off for thirty seconds. Once the
instrument cluster circuitry has detected an inoperative airbag warning lamp circuit, if a lamp-on message is received from the Airbag Control Module (
ACM) on the Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) data bus, the seat belt reminder lamp will remain on for the duration of the airbag system malfunction.
If the airbag indicator lamp fails to light when the ignition switch is turned to the On position, and the seat belt reminder lamp flashes following its
normal display function (about seven seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the On position), diagnosis of the airbag system and/or the CCD data
bus should be performed with a DRB scan tool as described in the proper Diagnostic Procedures. For diagnosis of the airbag lamp and the instrument
