Coil Spring - Installation Precautions
NO.: 02-11-93
GROUP: Front Suspension
DATE: Dec. 17, 1993
SUBJECT:
Front Coil Spring Installation
MODELS:
1991-1994 (AN) Dakota
DISCUSSION:
Incorrect installation of the coil springs can cause a distortion of the spring. This may lead to a snapping or popping noise caused by the spring
contacting suspension components.
When installing the spring, be sure to follow the procedure outlined in the Service Manual to ensure that the spring is not installed upside down. The top
of the spring can be identified by the grooves ground into the coil (see illustration). Be sure to inspect the tabs in the frame spring pocket. The tabs will
often become damaged if the spring has been installed incorrectly. Straighten the tabs prior to installing the springs. Be sure to seat the spring against the
stop in the lower control arm well.
