Differential Case: Service and Repair
Do not attempt to disassemble a Sure-Grip differential. If differential is defective, replace it as a unit only.
Do not remove ring gear from case unless gear set or case are to be replaced or ring gear runout measured in step 7 of Differential Case Removal
exceeds 0.005 inch.
1. Remove ring gear attaching bolts. Ring gear attaching bolts are left hand thread.
2. Using brass drift or non-metallic hammer, tap drive gear loose from case and remove.
3. If ring gear runout exceeded 0.005 inch, install differential case, bearing cups, adjusters, bearing caps and bearing cap bolts in axle housing.
Lightly tighten bearing cap bolts, then tighten adjusters until all side play is removed.
